The new Michigan No-Fault insurance law defines qualified health coverage in two ways: It is “health or accident coverage” that “does not exclude or limit coverage for injuries related to motor vehicle accidents” and its “annual deductible for coverage” must be “$6,000 or less per individual.” (MCL 500.3107d (7) (b) (i)) Or it is Medicare coverage.
A letter showing proof that you meet the requirements for qualified health coverage or QHC may be asked for by your auto insurer. They may also request a coordination of benefits letter that shows how your health insurance and auto insurance work together to pay auto accident claims.
Coverage options 1 through 3 are available to ANYONE, regardless of their health insurance coverage. The remaining options include considerations for QHC. This is the coverage all Michigan residents have had prior to the new reform law. This option is still available to anyone, so you can select to continue it.
(2) An applicant or named insured shall, when requesting issuance or renewal of a policy under subsection (1), provide to the insurer a document from the person that provides the qualified health coverage stating the names of all persons covered under the qualified health coverage.
