But in other developed countries, public health researchers have focused on health disparities as they are related to inequalities in the distribution of income. , Epidemiologists have long known that poverty is associated with higher rates of morbidity and mortality.
Income inequality has grown substantially in recent decades, which may perpetuate or exacerbate health disparities.
Expanding disability, sick, parental, child-care, health care, and unemployment benefits, as well as protecting safety net programs such as Social Security and government health insurance, can therefore safeguard the health of those most affected by income inequality.
