The fifty-eight World Health Assembly in May 2005 adopted a resolution setting up a ‘Global eHealth Strategy’ within the World Health Organisation. The same year the WHO set up the ‘Global Observatory for eHealth (GOe)’ with the remit of studying, monitoring and promoting the role of eHealth in health services and systems globally.
This global eHealth system has operated for altruistic, rather than commercial reasons, and also provides a context for global health professional education and evaluation.
