Dental insurance isn't as good a deal as it would seem. Usually there is a maximum benefit of $1,000 a year. I had to split my wisdom teeth extraction between top of mouth and bottom of mouth because each tooth was something like $280 and because of cleanings that year I only had enough benefit left to get 2 taken out at a time.
